Everyone has Hunter Kaid all wrong. Even his own brother writes him off as unintelligent, but not all smarts are the same. He just needs one person to understand him and listen to what he’s really saying. All of his life, he’s been searching for that one person who really takes the time to see him, and just when he’s about given up, he stumbles upon Sadey. She’s hurt one of his pack-mates, and his loyalty to his people wars with his interest in this human woman with a sad smile and a good heart. He might not be the brightest apple in the bunch, but he has a talent for seeing the good in people, and Sadey Lawklin is oozing with goodness that he can’t ignore. A hurt woman like her needs time and patience before he tries to change her life, but the closer she gets to him, the more his inner wolf wants to claim her. And now he can’t tell who is in more danger—himself, or her.
Sadey Lawklin is in the armpit of her life. She’s dug herself into a hole that will be nearly impossible to dig out of, and the very first thing she needs to do is apologize to the people she’s hurt before she can heal herself. She has a plan to turn her entire life around in a matter of weeks, but one thing she didn’t plan on is another man sniffing around her. This is the worst timing to get attached to someone, and especially someone as agile and deadly as a Kaid Brother. No one messes with the Kaids. Everyone in town knows who they are, but they haven’t figured out what they are. And when Sadey discovers Hunter’s deep, dark, and terrifying secret, she’s sucked down a rabbit hole that just might break her…unless the watchful wolf who has chosen her can Make Her New.

Title: Make Her New
Series: Kaid Ranch Shifters #2
Author: T. S. Joyce
Published: January 24, 2020
My Rating: 4.5 stars
Make Her New is the second title in the Kaid Ranch Shifters series, and this one has some serious emotional punch in an already high-level emotions series. Really, most of what you’d want to know before picking this one up can be found in the Cover Description. What that doesn’t show you are the five people who are about to have their lives changed again, discover just how deep emotions run and, maybe, make some truths known, a bit more obvious and finally understood.
Both Sadey and Hunter are wounded creatures, in different ways but the hurt each is carrying is a very heavy load. Sadey made a mistake and that mistake was trusting a man who didn’t deserve her trust. Now she’s facing the worst she can imagine and actually owning up and saying sorry for her part in hurting a good woman. If she is to start fresh and rebuild her life this is the first step – she simply had no idea that this meeting was going to change her life in both good and wildly baffling ways as well.
My goodness, how I loved Hunter. He’s keeping a lot of pain inside, emotional and physical, yet he’s got smarts that come naturally for he understands people, their goodness, their possibilities and he has a heart of gold for those he cares about. Learning his truth was both painful and freeing because he’d found a woman in Sadey who could handle everything he is and has gone through. She might not always understand, but she won’t run, she digs in and goes after what she needs – and that is a life with Hunter, no matter how odd to the outside world.
There is one portion of this story that I laugh-snorted my way through. And if you are a long-time T. S. Joyce reader who has read all the series – then this little golden moment will make you smile for certain. It was perfectly played.
I had such a good time in Make Her New. The Kaid pack is unique but growing into something to be proud of. If you love a good Shifter Romance and characters who will wrap themselves around your heart then you’ll love the Kaid Ranch Shifters series.
