Wreck Itall is haunted by his past, and by his destiny in the mountains he has decided to call home. His mentor has been waiting to see which side he will choose—good, or evil—but Wreck himself doesn’t know that answer quite yet. He is the newest member of the Fastlander Crew, but they are very different from him. It is safest for everyone if he remains an outsider. If the Crew knew how dangerous he really is, they wouldn’t have ever let him pledge.

No one can stop him.
No one can tame the monster inside of him.
No one can break down his carefully-constructed walls…until he meets Timber.

The quirky beauty has a dark destiny of her own, and awakens something inside of him that can never be released onto the world. Wreck knows it is safer to stay away from her because she is human and has no idea what destruction is coming for Wreck and his Crew. It’s not fair to put a human in the middle of the war that has been building for so long, but he can’t seem to leave her alone. All he knows is that she brings out a side of him that could be the end of the world, and will absolutely be the end of Wreck. She dredges up the monster.

Timber Harris has a decision to make that she wouldn’t wish on anyone. She’s in search of a sign. After a chance meeting with an unlikely hero, she is feeling the winds of positive change finally shift in her direction. Wreck is abrasive and closed off. He’s a shifter, and she’s never been exposed to shifters before. To the outside world, he is uncaring and cold and dangerous, but with her, in moments of vulnerability, she can see the man he could be. He’s dominant and fiercely protective, but she can drag a smile from him, and that feels important. She can see him slowly growing a heart.

Timber is falling fast, but the closer she feels to him, the more distance he tries to create. A therapist by day, Timber knows exactly what to do to break down those walls. The more she learns about him, the more she realizes humans really don’t know anything about the chaos that is happening in the shifter world.

War has come to Damon’s Mountains. Wreck is the biggest weapon they have; if only he could control his fire.
His destiny was always to become the biggest villain Damon’s Mountains has ever known.
Timber’s destiny is to stop him.

Title:  Fastlander Phoenix
Series:  Fastlanders #5
Author:  T. S. Joyce
Published:  October 12, 2024
My Rating: 5 stars

Fastlander Phoenix is the fifth and final title in the Fastlander series, connected to the Damon’s Mountains world, in a powerful conclusion to a series that, in my humble opinion, is one of T. S. Joyce’s best entries into a compelling, addictive, amazing world.

And… Oh. My. Goodness.  Wreck and Timber are beyond amazing, individually and as a power couple, who bring this series to a conclusion that ties every single thread from the previous books into a story that had me laughing, engaged, crying with rage, and smiling in satisfaction.  I don’t know how it could possibly have been better, but I’m also certain that Ms Joyce will show us in another series someday that anything is possible.

The build-up to the moment when war finally arrived in Damon’s Mountain was a slowly growing, ominous feeling, while Wreck’s and Timber’s newly-discovered connection was bringing them closer as they learned about each other’s pasts, dealt with some pretty messed-up family relationships for Timber, and discovered more about Wreck, his powers, and what they could face together if they trust each other, and take that risk.

When war arrives, when visions are realized (although not always as anticipated), we’ll see the community of Damon’s Mountains face almost impossible odds.  The wreckage of battle was intense, the ending… mind-blowingly perfect for this tightly woven community of shifters and their mates.  I just finished it, and I’m going to immediately go back for a re-read, for I’m sure there are nuances I missed in my need to know what was happening in that epic battle.  It was also a perfect segue into the next series, Wreck’s Mountains.  This one deserves a ten-ten score, but I’ll have to settle for a 5 star rating.

If you love a well-written, passionate, danger-filled shifter romance with glimpses of humor and tight friendships, then Fastlander Phoenix by T. S. Joyce is a perfect fit for you.
