I was sent to destroy him.
Instead, I got marked by a growling, shirtless warlord who doesn’t understand the phrase “cease and desist.”

Malek Thorne walks like a king, talks like he invented sin, and claims I’m his fated mate. Which is hilarious, because I’m a federal prosecutor. I don’t do fate. I do indictments.

But then I stumble into a hidden war between shifter empires and burned-out covens, and suddenly the evidence isn’t just classified — it’s supernatural.

And so is my blood.

Now he’s dragging me across Europe like I’m his emotional support human, whispering about prophecies, protecting me like I break, and growling every time someone so much as breathes near me.

Which would be annoying… if it didn’t make my thighs clench.

He’s dangerous, unhinged, and possessive enough to burn down cities. And I think I’m in love with him.

I tried to take him to court. He took me to bed instead.

Title:  Roar Me Like You Mean It
Series:  Snowy Cozy Shifter Romances #1
Author:  Zora Black & Milly Taiden
Published:  November 27, 2025
My Rating:  4 stars

Roar Me Like You Mean It begins the Snowy Cozy Shifter Romance series with a tumultuous relationship between Jennifer, a federal prosecutor, and Malek, the head of a global conglomerate… and an ancient shifter with a past that isn’t about to stay buried any longer.  My immediate reaction to Jennifer and Malek was like watching two dangerous predators circling each other, looking for vulnerabilities, with a reluctant respect for each other’s power.  This opening story in the series has a lot of world-building, more than I’m used to in any tale that Milly Taiden has co-authored before, and Zora Black is a new-to-me author, so I don’t know her style yet.  I’m saying that with this story, and perhaps this series, I’m stepping outside of my “comfort zone” in a way to explore a differently created world.  That’s not a “bad” thing, simply different from what I’m accustomed to.

As I mentioned, there is a lot of ancient history (literally) to be understood in Jennifer and Malek’s story.  There is an organization called The Syndicate to keep our eyes on, and additional players (the Pact) in this long relationship that Malek has with other powerful shifters.  I’m assuming more details will emerge as the series continues.  For now, we have a compelling couple who are “dancing” around each other as we learn more about the intricacies of their worlds.  Yes, I’m being somewhat vague on details. Still, I believe the enjoyment of this particular opening story is primarily in each reader forming their own opinion of how the events unfold.

I enjoyed Roar Me Like You Mean It.  It’s well-written, passionate, intricate, and complex, featuring a couple who are each powerful in their own right (and worlds), who make a very believable “power couple” as time goes on.  I will continue with the series, since I’m now curious about what happens next in this complex world.

I read this title through my Kindle Unlimited subscription.

(And, frankly, I’m not seeing how the series title relates because there was nothing Cozy about this story, but time will tell.)

Update:  I’ve completed the series, or at least through the fourth book, I’m not seeing, yet, if there are more… It “feels” like there needs to be one more, but I don’t know that at this time.  I’m not going to do individual reviews for each book as I normally would.  Why?  Because, quite simply, each review would sound very similar… the hero and the heroine connect, deal with the hero’s reaction to the broken Pact, they have a lot of searing sex, fight a few bad guys, then move into the next book with the basics of a full story — but with a sense of something left undone, unsaid, incomplete.  If pushed, I would rate each book a 4-star review, good but missing something that I find necessary in any Shifter Romance.  Connection.  I usually adore Milly Taiden’s work, whether it’s solo or with a co-author… yet I read this series (up to this point) because I kept waiting for that connection I never felt.  I liked the characters, but their world felt foreign in a way that I couldn’t get beyond.  I never felt as if I had walked “into” this world; it always held me at bay, just outside of that invitation to enter in fully.  If you’ve read the series, loved it… Then I’m honestly happy for you.  I believe no two people ever read the same book.  And for me, this series was okay, yet left me wanting more that I couldn’t find.

If you enjoy this author’s work, be sure to visit our Milly Taiden page for reviews of other series, or to discover series you might have missed.
