My Emergency Contact is a Wolf Shifter by Roxie Ray

Zoey Yates doesn’t ask for help. She fixes things, handles things, and keeps a carefully maintained emotional perimeter around everything that matters. She has a plan, a parrot with a helpdesk vocabulary, and absolutely zero feelings about the wolf shifter she listed as her emergency contact after knowing him for approximately six hours.

Zero feelings. Completely fine.

The hospital called him anyway. He drove forty minutes in thirty-two. Now he’s in her apartment, cooking eggs she didn’t ask for, and her parrot—who has never liked anyone—has accepted a head scratch. Liam sits across the room, not beside her, because she hasn’t invited anything closer. He waits. He doesn’t push.

Zoey has spent her whole life being the person who shows up. She doesn’t have a protocol for someone who shows up for her.

She’s building one. Against her will. Slightly faster than planned.

Title:  My Emergency Contact is a Wolf Shifter
Series:  Standalone
Author:  Roxie Ray (a collective writing under one pen name)
Published:  June 16, 2026
My Rating:  4 stars

My Emergency Contact is a Wolf Shifter is a standalone title written by a collection of writers/friends under the Roxie Ray pen name.  I haven’t read much by this author, yet what I have read has been an enjoyable experience… and Zoey and Liam’s story was another I enjoyed.  They both have lingering parental issues (for very good reasons) that continue to affect their lives.  Watching them work through those issues, perhaps discover enough courage to trust each other, was an engaging story.

Their story was well-written, certainly emotional at times, with a clear message about prioritizing mental health for one’s own well-being… something we could all learn from.  I’m not saying it’s easy for anyone (fictional or not), but sometimes we need to learn to accept and love ourselves and others.  There were several laugh-out-loud moments, as well as some tender ones.  Overall, I enjoyed My Emergency Contact is a Wolf Shifter.  In many ways, it shows that a good story doesn’t need to have over-the-top drama or a vile villain lurking everywhere.  Sometimes we are our own worst enemies, and sometimes, we learn (like Zoey and Liam learned) how not to be that to ourselves anymore.  If this sounds like your kind of paranormal/shifter romance, you’d enjoy Zoey and Liam’s romance.

*I received an e-ARC of this novel from the author or the author’s team via Booksprout, and I sincerely thank them for their trust. It is my choice to leave a review giving my personal opinion about this book.*
