Her Ex-Military Cougar Shifter is the seventh title in the Branwen Beach Tavern Shifters series, this time bringing together two fiction authors who are about to learn that living the romance is much more fun than writing about it.  I try so hard not to have “favorite stories” within a series… but, man, Felix and Adrienne made that a really difficult task.

While a road trip will take us a bit away from the usual Branwen Tavern setting, there’s enough to satisfy that continuity of location with two writers who discover that second chances come around in any life, even a life beyond the first flush of youth.  Their experiences and their maturity only added to the enjoyment of this story for me.  I enjoyed seeing two writers fall in love, especially the way these two did.  Yet, frankly, I miss the more involved paranormal/shifter aspect.  I won’t nitpick over an author’s story; it’s theirs to give and mine to read as presented, but I don’t think it would have taken away from the series to have a bit more shifter activity.  Now, that’s my own opinion, and as a “Paranormal Light”, the story and the series work perfectly.  I’m, admittedly, addicted to Shifter Romance, and I miss that aspect of the genre in this series.

Despite my wishing for more Shifter action, I enjoyed Felix and Adrienne’s story.  It’s well-written, passionate, emotional… and easily devoured on a lunch break or a quiet evening of escaping into a good book.  If that sounds like your kind of romance, then you’d love Her Ex-Military Cougar Shifter.
