I’ve never been a huge fan of serials because of the cliffhanger endings.  Every reader enjoys what is entertaining to them, and I like a book to end at the last page.  Lately there have been many “serial” stories that come with somewhat of a cliffhanger (in that the main story continues on) with a Happy For Now ending for the couple.  That is far closer to the type of series that I enjoy so I’ve ventured out a bit more trying out various serial stories.  The first story in the Exiled Dragons serial ends more like a series with that Happy For Now ending that I tend to need.  So this is an exception to that serial “rule” of mine – I’d like to see where this goes, and time will tell if I stick to it all the way through.  (although once you’re a book or two in it’s hard to stop there)

Betrayed by a Dragon begins with two dragon shifter brothers, Connor and Owen.  We are soon introduced to a new lady in town, also a dragon shifter, Emily.  Owen has had a tragic event in his past, but even if he is aloof at times he is fiercely loyal to his brother and mother.  Connor and Emily are immediately attracted to each other, and over the course of several weeks their romance is in full bloom.  When a stranger arrives at the brothers cabin with information about their father’s death everything they knew was turned upside down.  Their need for revenge is intense, but plans need to be made for their adversary is in a powerful position, quite able to not only make life miserable for them all – but to do the same to them as was done to their father.

Emily and Connor’s romance is a slow burn.  Sexy, yes, but we’re really getting to know these three main characters and discovering what they face now that a truth is known.  As the first story in this serial I expect some world building and character development.  When danger strikes their plans must change – and their futures as well.

I found Betrayed by a Dragon to be an interesting story with enough knowledge of who the good guys and the bad guys are to make some scenes intense.  There were a few surprises as well, and I believe this will turn into an interesting, entertaining tale.  Enough so that I’m about to go download the next part and continue this adventure.

I’d recommend this story for any Paranormal Romance or Shifter Romance reader who can be content with a Happy For Now ending while the story continues on in the next story.  The characters are believable, and the secondary characters, although few at this point, did add to the overall story.
