Somebody left a crock on the potluck table and never came back for it.
The tape on the lid said FROST. BLACKTHORN ROAD. THE END OF IT.
So I filled it with brownies and walked it home.

I’m the cook at the Grange in a town too small for secrets, and I have one rule: nothing goes home from my hands empty. I left that crock on a stranger’s porch with a thank-you note.  By sunup it was back on my doorstep. Still warm. Venison stew, and no note.  I sent a roast chicken. The crock came back with honey, the comb still in it.

Then I met Callan Frost. Six foot five, a century-old alpha king, and the quietest man I’ve ever fed. He growls at my sixty-year-old mailman. He is also, it turns out, the wolf the size of a pony who takes chicken skin off my porch most nights. I named him Biscuit.

“I’d been hungry a hundred years, Nora.”

Here’s what nobody in town thought to mention. In Frost Hollow, a dish sent out full is a question. Send it back empty and the answer is no. Send it back full, and the answer is yes, and after the third one, it’s kept.  Callan knew what my brownies meant from the start. I did not.  Now I’m two dishes into a courtship I started by accident, the whole town wants to know what I’ll bake next, and the man at the end of the road is perfectly willing to let me make up my own mind. That would be easier if I hadn’t spent twelve years leaving towns that never once asked me to stay.

One more pan of brownies and it’s binding. I haven’t decided whether to preheat the oven.

The Lycan King Thinks My Brownies Were a Proposal is part of the Lycan King Problems series, which transports readers to a small town full of secrets.  The stories are fun, emotional, witty, and steamy.  Each story could be considered a standalone (with very strong Alpha vibes), but I’m betting once you’ve visited, you’ll want to return for more.  I know I’ll certainly be back.  Tansy Underhill is a new-to-me author, and one I’ll definitely be following.

Nora and Callan’s story is full of those moments that just pull me further into the story: witty without being sarcastic, a small-town feel where it seems everyone knows what Nora doesn’t, an Alpha who has been waiting a very long time for his fated mate to appear…and is willing to let her make her own choice.  I was easily swept up in their romantic journey.  Their romance is well-written, engaging, emotional, full of laugh-out-loud moments, and steamy in the best possible ways.  I had fun here, and that’s the entire purpose of shifter romance for me.  If that sounds like your kind of fated mates romance, then you’d enjoy The Lycan King Thinks My Brownies Were a Proposal.
