The Bear’s Accidental Mate begins the Bear Creek Forever: Thornberg Restaurant series (yes, the Thornberg family is quite prominent and diverse in Bear Creek) with a heartfelt slow burn between Hannah and Caleb, introducing this branch of the Thornberg family (cousins). While you do not have to have read the two earlier series centering around the Thornberg family, they are both delightful and emotional series to add to your Thornberg connection — Bear Creek Forever: Thornberg Ranch and Bear Creek Forever: Thornberg Vineyards.

Hannah values her freedom above all else.  She has her future mapped out precisely and has no intention of diverting from that path.  But a flat tire is about to derail her intentions in, perhaps, the best possible way when the man who will be her future, if she’ll take a risk on love, pulls up behind her on the road to offer help.  Caleb knew before he laid eyes on the woman alongside the road that she was his mate; he’d sensed her, he and his bear knew who she would be to them… only he didn’t expect to learn that his mate had lived a life where trusting anyone (even herself) came at a high cost.  And that high cost just might cost them the happiness, the connection, the future they both deserved.

Hannah has learned the hard way that the only person she can depend on is herself.  Her love for this classic car will dictate that she stay in Bear Creek with Caleb until it is drivable again… then she’ll be on the road to her future, the future she’d expected before that wrong turn and car troubles got in the way.  Yet, there is definitely a pull to stay a while, to perhaps allow emotions into her life, to maybe let that planned path wind in a different direction.  But to do that, she’ll have to trust in Caleb’s love for her… and trust in herself as well.

I adored Caleb.  He knows what Hannah is to him, his bear would tear down walls to get to her… but the reality is, Hannah must choose to stay; he cannot force her to return the love he has for his mate.  She’s focused on preserving her independence, while he’s offering a future filled with everything she could possibly need, but she has to take the risk.  Caleb’s patience, his steadfast determination not to try to make Hannah accept that she’s his mate, was so tender, so believable for the character.  His awareness that love cannot be forced, at times, broke my heart for this bear shifter who has been waiting for his mate for so long.

I found The Bear’s Accidental Mate to be well-written (which I always find with this author), emotional and passionate as two destined people take the risk of falling in a forever kind of love.  If that’s your kind of Shifter Romance, then you’ll love this one.
