Resisting desire is futile in the Corona Mountains.

Elementary school principal Brigitte Mayfair has worked hard to keep herself cool, professional, and detached after the scandal she left behind in Michigan. But when she’s abducted from campus and released three days later with no memory of her captivity, she feels anything but cool and professional. Especially when a drop-dead gorgeous rescuer begins to rekindle her buried passions.

Mountain lion shapeshifter Rafe Corona hasn’t been serious about a woman…ever. He’s purposefully kept his distance from all potential mates, believing that he doesn’t deserve happiness. Something about Brigitte calls to him, though. He must overcome the danger that threatens to keep them apart and find the passion hidden within them both, or risk losing her forever.

Sexy shifters and their feisty mates who aren’t shy about loving each other – so, this is an adult, 18+ reader tale.

Title:  Savage Loss
Series:  The Corona Pride #2

My Rating:  4.5 stars

The further I get into The Corona Pride series the more I’m enjoying this world – and the more careful I need to be while talking about it in reviews.  This world is taking shape quite easily now, and some characters act exactly as we expect them to – right up until they don’t.  You’ll see.

We met Rafe in the first story, but now the reasons behind his alone-ness become clear.  It’s hard not to feel badly for Rafe once you understand his background, and perhaps a bit happier for him when he seems to find that perfect for him woman in Brigitte.  Yet life is rarely simple and complications set in almost from the first words they speak.

When Brigitte goes missing shortly after their meeting, Rafe will do everything in his power to search for her – even run along the edge of defying his alpha Marlana, which is never easy to do.  His underlying fear is that the enemy that his pride believed they had vanquished recently may actually still be active.  And f that’s true there is a huge amount of trouble ahead.  When Brigitte is found wandering the forest three days after going missing his fears have a greater chance of becoming reality.  For now, the most important thing is seeing to Brigitte’s safety and health.

The most frustrating part of writing a review, for me, are the things that I cannot tell you about.  To do that would be to ruin the story for your enjoyment, and I hate when that happens to me.  So let me wrap up very simply, and hopefully without spoilers.

Watching Rafe and Brigitte fall into their romance was endearing.  They both have faced great losses in their lives, perhaps to never fully recover from them.  Yet each of them fills a space for the other, and even when Brigitte hesitates she is still drawn back to the one man she feels safe with.  They have secrets to tell each other, in time.  It was touching to witness them healing each other.

There is, of course, more danger to be faced.  Emotions to be sorted out and lives to be changed by the results.  There’s a bit more world building, seeing old friends and get hints of adventures yet to come for the members of this pride.  Savage Loss has taken the next step in making this series a community, a world where dropping back in for a visit feels natural and at ease.  I enjoyed Rafe and Brigitte, their love is tender but not fragile.  They’ll make it.  And that is a lesson for us all, trust yourself, your instincts rarely lie.

I would not hesitate to recommend Savage Loss to any Paranormal Romance or Shifter Romance reader.  A good, solid story, relatable people, unique situations, an enemy to loathe, rules to break and love to be found.  Plus secondary characters you’ll be waiting and hoping to learn their stories first hand.  Yeah, this series is addicting – and in this case, that’s not a bad thing.  Indulge yourself and enjoy.
