It’s always spooky season here…

Poppy McMaster was supposed to be getting married, not climbing out of a bathroom window in her wedding dress…

She’s leaving her life behind and fleeing to the only place she’s ever truly felt like herself: the small town she grew up in, where Halloween lasts all year.

But home isn’t waiting for Poppy the way she imagined. Her grandparents’ beloved inn is now owned by Thom Sheffield, who just happens to be:

  • Her childhood hero
  • Her ex-fiancé’s brooding older brother
  • The last man on earth she should be fantasizing about…

Because in a town full of pumpkins, cozy traditions, and Halloween magic, falling in love might be the scariest thing of all…

Halloween Town is the second title in the Halloween Town series, bringing Wren’s (from Summerween) friend Poppy back home after she escapes her wedding when she discovers she just cannot marry her intended groom.  She’s spent so much of her life doing what others expect, but this, out of her control, over the top (even by her almost MIL’s standards), was the final nail in that haunted coffin… she just couldn’t do it, so out of the venue’s bathroom window, still dressed in her wedding gown, she went.  Back home.  Where her best friend, Wren, waited with open arms and a heart without judgment, where maybe she could put her life together again… until the place she expected to land suddenly wasn’t what she’d expected to find.

I enjoyed being back in this world.  We briefly met Poppy in the first story in this series, and she shines in this one.  I loved watching her grow throughout as she slowly discovers exactly who she is on her own… not what everyone seems to expect her to be.  “Finding myself” often seems to be a phrase easily tossed about; here it has meaning as Poppy (and in some ways, Thom, as well) really does discover what she wants from life, and surprise… it isn’t always what someone else thinks is best.  Both Poppy and Thom have issues to deal with; watching them lower walls, open their hearts, and really see each other for who they are was an enjoyable experience.  Their story is well-written, engaging, and emotional, with laughter and tears mixed in.  The town’s resident ghosts get up to their shenanigans and add truly laugh-out-loud moments for me.  If that sounds like your kind of Paranormal Romance, then you’d enjoy Halloween Town.  I’m looking forward to whatever comes our way next.
