After getting her heartbroken, hedgehog shifter Hester just wants to get away from romance for the Valentine’s Day weekend. Instead, she ends up snowbound in a gorgeous mountain lodge with the most amazing man she’s ever met.
He’s sexy. He’s sweet. He’s funny. He turns into a grison, the most adorable ferret-like animal she’s ever seen.
And he’s her fated mate.
Too bad Hester’s not ready to open herself to love again.
But Mauro is determined to heal her broken heart. Will one romantic, snowbound weekend be enough for this prickly little hedgehog to accept the love of a man and his grison?

My Rating: 4.5 stars
I’m loving the “Shifter Bites” by Zoe Chant, just a short story, closed doors so definitely on the “sweet” side of shifter romance, and just enough of a guaranteed HEA story to fit into a break or a lunch read.
Cute but Prickly gives us an adorable story of Hester who’s discovered the man she was engaged to ends up being a total lying cheat. She’s better off without the jerk. While dumping his junk she comes across a reservation for Valentine’s Getaway for Two – and decides to take that trip – with her mom as company – just because she can. The last thing she expected was to discover she wasn’t as alone in the shifter world as she thought or to find her mate.
Mauro is the caretaker/handyman for the mountain lodge where Hester and her mom are headed. He’s the only one at the lodge since they’d canceled the Valentine’s Day package and the elderly couple who owned the lodge was away. To his surprise, a car emerges from the snowstorm with his mate (and her mother) ready for that getaway to ease the hurt. His grison knows immediately that they’ve found their fated mate… but why doesn’t she?
Cute but Prickly is short, sweet, and completely adorable. I pretty much smiled my way through the entire story. Frankly, I would love to see this story be a prelude to a series… and you’ll understand why I say that by the story’s ending. I had fun, and would gladly return one day.
